AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine Gov. Paul LePage says the state should ask voters if they want to lower taxes and state spending.
The Republican governor said during his third State of the State address before the Democratic-controlled Legislature that the state should have a statewide referendum to ask voters if they want to lower taxes by at least $100 million and reduce state spending by at least $100 million.
LePage says the state must cut its income taxes rates and eliminate the sales tax. He says Maine’s tax code must be brought “into the 21st century.”
