SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - A northeastern Pennsylvania man accused of having set fire to his home while his father was sleeping is now facing a homicide charge following the older man’s death.

The (Scranton) Times-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1gISR2n ) reports that 47-year-old Kevin Brown was arraigned Monday on the new Lackawanna County charge in the death of 78-year-old James Brown.

Kevin Brown was originally charged with attempted homicide in the November fire in Scranton, which authorities alleged occurred after he and James Brown argued over finances.

Witnesses told police that the father was pulled from the flames by neighbors as his son sat in the backyard. James Brown was badly burned and died Dec. 3.

Prosecutors said they held off on increasing the charge until the younger man was deemed competent in a mental health evaluation.
