PEARL, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has declared this week Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
The National Weather Service will issue Wednesday a statewide test tornado warning on NOAA weather radios at 9:15 a.m. Schools, government agencies and businesses statewide are encouraged to participate in the tornado drill.
Meteorologist Charge Alan Gerard says spring is the state’s primary severe weather season, which can include thunderstorms, tornadoes and flooding.
Bryant, in a statement Monday, urged Mississippians to take time now to discuss with family how they will respond if severe weather threatens the area. According to the NWS, two Mississippians were killed and nearly 100 were injured during severe weather outbreaks in 2013.
