FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Kentucky governor’s mansion has turned 100 years old, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky has been named the title sponsor for a celebration marking the centennial.
The announcement was made by the Governor’s Mansion Centennial Committee.
The anniversary is being marked with a yearlong celebration of events honoring the mansion’s architectural, social and political history.
Wil James, president of the Toyota-Kentucky plant, says the automaker is well aware of the mansion’s important history. He says the mansion was a key venue for discussions that led to Toyota’s decision to locate its auto plant in Georgetown.
The centennial celebration will feature both free and ticketed public and private events.
Events will include a civil rights exhibit and public mansion tour honoring Martin Luther King Jr.’s visit to Frankfort on March 5, 1964.
