SEATTLE (AP) - The superintendent of Seattle Public Schools says parents can take their kids out of school for Wednesday’s Seattle Seahawks victory parade - but it will be an unexcused absence.

The Seattle Times reports (https://is.gd/mKnZVZ ) that Superintendent Jose Banda released a statement Monday in which he says, “While we support the team, academics must come first and it’s important not to lose a day in the classroom.”

Banda’s suggestion? He encourages students and staff to wear blue - one of the Seahawks’ colors - on Wednesday.

The Super Bowl champions returned Monday evening to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
