JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The Senate Finance Committee has approved amending a contract for a consultant hired to look at putting public school employees in a state-managed health insurance plan.

The $150,000 contract amendment was approved Monday, bringing the total contract amount for the Hay Group at about $450,000. The contract also was extended to June 30.

An aide to committee co-chair Kevin Meyer told the panel several committee members had requested additional analysis after a report by the Hay Group was released in December.

The committee had commissioned the report as part of its consideration of a bill that would put all school district employees under a state-managed plan as a way to save districts money.

The report recommended a state-managed program.
