OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Gov. Mary Fallin is praising improvements to the state’s economy over the past three years.

Fallin discussed the economy and other issues Monday as she delivered her State of the State speech on the opening day of the 2014 Oklahoma Legislature.

Fallin says the state’s unemployment rate stood at 7.2 percent when she took office in 2011. The state also faced a budget shortfall of more than $500 million and the constitutional Rainy Day savings account had just $2.03 in it.

But Fallin says the situation has improved thanks to policies implemented over the past three years. Oklahoma’s unemployment rate is now down to 5.4 percent. And the state’s fiscal house is in order with $530 million in the Rainy Day savings account, a real safety net in another crisis.
