OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma’s new Workers’ Compensation Commission has opened for business.
Offices in Oklahoma City and Tulsa were prepared to receive workers’ compensation claims beginning Monday. The commission was created last year for workplace injuries and illnesses occurring on or after Feb. 1, 2014.
The commission will transition Oklahoma’s workplace injury and illness benefits processes from a judicially based workers’ compensation system to an administrative one. Supporters say the new system will allow employers and employees to amicably resolve disputes and get back to work as soon as possible.
The commission will explore ways to leverage technology and business practices to allow Oklahoma employees who are injured on the job to receive prompt treatment. Oklahoma businesses are expected to save millions of dollars in workers’ compensation insurance premiums.
