JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon’s administration says it has saved $6.7 million over several years by reducing the amount of office space that Missouri rents.
The state Office of Administration says it has eliminated 432,000 square feet of leased building space since Nixon became governor in 2009. That’s resulted in a 16 percent reduction in rent expenditures.
Nearly $1 million of the savings has come from a reduction in janitorial services associated with the leased buildings. Not only is Missouri renting less space, but Nixon’s administration says it also has renegotiated some of the lease agreements.
