MONROE, La. (AP) - Mid-South Extrusion will invest $4 million to expand its Monroe plastic film plant, creating 12 new jobs.

The company already employs 130 at its facility.

“We are very excited about this investment opportunity and the features this new production line will offer (Mid-South) and our customers,” company President Ron Mason said. “In addition to a large increase in production capacity, it will allow (Mid-South) to compete in new markets - and offer new products - that until now we were unable to participate in.”

The latest expansion will establish a ninth production line in Mid-South’s now 200,000-square-foot facility, where the company produces more than 62 million pounds of plastic film for industrial applications annually.

Installation of the new line is set to begin in May and be complete in August. Hiring is expected to begin during the second quarter.

Mayor Jamie Mayo also touted the expansion announced Friday by Mason and Gov. Bobby Jindal, The News-Star (https://tnsne.ws/Lyvri4) reports.

“This business lies right in the heart of our Southside Economic Development District,” he said. “The new direct and indirect jobs will allow dozens of good, hard-working citizens to obtain gainful employment while helping to bolster our local economy.”

The Louisiana Department of Economic Development crafted a $200,000 Modernization Tax Credit to secure the expansion. Mid-South also is expected to tap the state’s Enterprise Zone and Industrial Tax Exemption programs.

“Every new investment from companies like Mid-South Extrusion is a vote of confidence in our world-class infrastructure and talented workforce,” Jindal said.

Mid-South was founded in 1986 with one production line and four employees in a 17,000-square-foot production facility.
