SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for conspiring to smuggle firearms, cigarettes, drugs and stolen cars to Bolivia.
Authorities say 46-year-old Roberto Barrero was convicted last week of conspiring to deal in firearms without a license, conspiring to transport stolen vehicles across state lines, conspiring to possess untaxed cigarettes, and conspiring to commit money laundering.
Prosecutors say Barrero, originally of Bolivia, helped funnel more than 50 guns, nine stolen cars, cocaine and more than 2,300 cartons of untaxed cigarettes to the South American country.
Authorities say Barrero also conspired to launder between $2 million and $18 million in drug proceeds.
Prosecutors say Barrero has been ordered to pay more than $130,500 in restitution and will serve five years of supervised release after prison.
