RENOVO, Pa. (AP) - A former Army paratrooper says he’s running for the Democratic nomination to oppose U.S. Rep. Glenn “G.T” Thompson, the Republican incumbent in Pennsylvania’s sparsely populated 5th Congressional District.
Thomas Tarantella is a native of Renovo, in Clinton County, one of 16 northwestern or north-central counties that are wholly or partly in the district. The Congressional district is the largest by land area in Pennsylvania, and the least densely populated.
Tarantella spent 22 years in the Army and has worked as a welder’s helper for Norfolk Southern Railroad since retiring from the service in 2002.
Thompson was elected in 2008, replacing John Peterson, another Republican who held the seat for six terms.
