AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - U.S. Sen. John Cornyn raised nearly $1.5 million in the final quarter of last year and has $6.5 million in cash on-hand.

Cornyn, the Senate minority whip, is seeking a third term in office.

His campaign said Monday it took in $1.48 million between October and December 2013. Cornyn’s $6.5 million war chest is down only slightly from the $6.9 million he had through September.

Cornyn faces a longshot Republican primary challenge from U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman.

Stockman has been dogged by allegations of campaign finance wrongdoing. And his campaign reported having more debt than cash on-hand through September.

Stockman also has maintained an extremely low profile - dropping out of sight much of last month. It turned out he’d been on an official visit to Egypt, Israel and Russia.
