NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) - A St. Albans, Vt., woman has pleaded guilty in connection to a crash that killed an elderly couple in 2012.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/OJjjMZ) that 27-year-old Alexis Gabree pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of gross negligent operation of a motor vehicle resulting in a fatality. She will be sentenced later to six to 15 years in prison.

Gabree was driving 17 mph over the speed limit on Route 105 in North Troy when she struck another car head on. Eighty-two-year-old Edmund Moran of Jay died at the scene, and his wife, 76-year-old Margaret Moran, died later of her injuries.

Gabree told police she was a recovering drug addict and had recently relapsed. Her lawyer says she is remorseful and is taking responsibility for her actions.
