LACKAWANNA, N.Y. (AP) - Travelers from western New York will soon be able to qualify for expedited screening at airport security checkpoints.
The federal Transportation Security Administration is opening an application center on Friday for its pre-check program in Lackawanna.
Those who enroll in the program can wear their shoes and belts through security, and laptops can stay in the case.
U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents start the process online and then complete it in person at an application center, where their fingerprints are taken and citizenship or immigration status confirmed.
The TSA began opening the centers in December. In New York, they’re up and running in Oswego, Albany, Rochester, New York City, Hicksville and Kings Park.
