LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for counties in northern Arkansas for Sunday afternoon through Monday morning.

Forecasters say the winter storm will bring “significant winter precipitation” to the northern one-third of Arkansas. The weather service expects a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow in the region.

The weather service says areas could see 1 to 2 inches of sleet and snow, while some places could see ice accumulations of one-quarter to one-half of an inch.

Forecasters say it’s not yet clear how far south the wintry precipitation will extend. Areas south of the front could see heavy rain and thunderstorms with up to 2 inches of rain possible in central and southeastern Arkansas.
