FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - More than 400 Fort Wainwright soldiers are preparing for a deployment to Afghanistan.

The soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment participated in a deployment ceremony Wednesday for their upcoming nine-month tour. The soldiers are scheduled to depart next month.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (https://is.gd/VN7xaB) says it’s the largest Fort Wainwright deployment since 2011, when more than 4,000 soldiers from the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division were assigned Afghanistan.

About 300 soldiers from the 1-52 battalion will remain at Fort Wainwright as a rear detachment.
