CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The Wyoming Legislature has given final approval to a proposal to lift the state’s eight-year moratorium on funding new alternative schools.

The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1gHaJGb) the Senate voted 29-1 Thursday to approve House Bill 3. The proposal already passed the House and goes to Gov. Matt Mead for consideration.

The bill also creates a review process to screen proposed alternative schools for funding eligibility.

The legislature created the moratorium in 2006. Alternative schools serve non-traditional students, including dropouts and at-risk children and teens.
