LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias is expected to be out for about a week because of a recurring shin problem.
Manager Brad Ausmus says Iglesias is dealing with a stress reaction in his shins, and the Tigers want to make sure the issue doesn’t become any more of a concern.
Iglesias finished second in last year’s American League rookie of the year vote, hitting .303 in 109 games. Detroit acquired him from Boston just before the 2013 trade deadline, and the Tigers plan to use him as their starting shortstop after letting Jhonny Peralta leave via free agency.
Iglesias missed time in September as well with shin problems.
