GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) - An American Airlines flight returned to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for an emergency landing after its crew reported the jet hit a bird on takeoff.
The Federal Aviation Administration says American Airlines Flight 1188 landed safely Friday night after its crew reported the bird strike. The MD-80 jet was flying from DFW to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.
In a statement, the FAA said the return was a precautionary measure. The FAA says American Airlines crews found minor damage to one of the plane’s two engines.
American spokeswoman Laura Masvidal says no one was injured. The flight had 123 passengers and five crew members. They were placed aboard another aircraft for the flight to Washington.
