North Korea sent four short-range missiles into the sea, an apparent message of warning and show of strength to South Korea, which has just kicked off joint military training exercises with the United States.
A defense ministry official for South Korea said the missiles had a range of about 125 miles, and were fired from the eastern coastline of North Korea, Agence France-Presse reported.
“Our military will maintain tight vigilance in preparation for additional launches or any military provocation from the North,” the spokesman said, in AFP.
North Korea routinely fires its short-range missiles, especially to send messages to both its southern neighbor and the West during joint military exercises. Most military watchdogs say this most recent firing is all show and that it’s not expected to lead to higher tensions in the region, AFP reported.
U.S.-South Korean drills kicked off Monday.
