NASHUA, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire’s Daniel Webster College is among the schools owned by a for-profit college chain being sued by a federal watchdog agency.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against Indiana-based ITT Education Services alleging that it pushed students into high-cost private student loans knowing they would likely end in default. The company has about 150 institutions in nearly 40 states, including Daniel Webster College in Nashua.

The Telegraph of Nashua (https://bit.ly/1hW5BD8) reports that ITT bought Daniel Webster College in 2009 for $29 million. Changes made since then include ending the school’s aviation program.

An ITT company spokeswoman says the bureau’s claims are without merit, but she wouldn’t comment further on pending litigation.
