Ronan Farrow, who began hosting his daytime MSNBC show Monday, received the Cronkite Award for Excellence in Exploration and Journalism Wednesday night.
Global education group Reach the World recognized Mr. Farrow, son of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, at its 14th annual benefit.
Prior to the event, Reach the World issued a press release asking reporters attending the event not to ask Mr. Farrow about the controversy surrounding Mr. Allen, who has been accused of sexually molesting his adopted daughter, Dylan.
“The theme of the evening is global education and service,” a memo to the press reads. “All press are required to stay strictly on message. Any press who ask guests or Mr. Farrow about off-message topics will be immediately escorted out of the event.”
A Reach the World representative told the New York Post: “We would like you to sign the form or indicate by return e-mail that you understand our goals to stay completely on message given the surrounding circumstances. We will not tolerate press questions about personal or family affairs related to Mr. Farrow in any circumstance at this event. Farrow is not doing interviews and the rules come from his team direct to you.”
According to an MSNBC spokesperson, Mr. Farrow did not request any restrictions on reporters’ questions, Politico reported.
