LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP) - Bayer Leverkusen has signed wing back Wendell from Brazilian side Gremio with effect from next season.
The Bundesliga side says in a statement that the 20-year-old, whose full name is Wendell Nascimento Borges, has signed a five-year deal through June 2019.
Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voeller says the left-footed Wendell “is a huge talent who can help us decisively from the start. We’re certain that he can enhance the great tradition of top Brazilian players at Bayer Leverkusen.”
Leverkusen chief executive Michael Schade says the club used a release clause in the player’s existing contract to make the transfer.
Wendell says he was advised by Gremio captain Ze Roberto, a former Leverkusen player, to join the club.
