MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Atlanta rapper, Da Brat, has been ordered to pay $6.4 million to a woman she attacked with a rum bottle during a Halloween party.
A Cobb County jury made the ruling Thursday against the 39-year-old former rapper, whose real name is Shawntae Harris.
The rapper’s attorney, B.J. Bernstein told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (https://bit.ly/1o9F6Yl ) that he feels the judgment, which includes compensatory and punitive damages, is excessive.
Harris spent nearly three years in prison for the 2007 attack on a former Atlanta Falcons cheerleader and waitress at a club owned by an Atlanta-area hip-hop mogul.
The woman’s attorney, Mark Stevens, says his client was left with a brain injury and a scar on her face after the attack.
