A California man faces federal charges after flying three sheets to the wind from Manila to Los Angeles on Sunday, according to an FBI report.
Edgar Nafarrette Nonga, 53, became angry when flight attendants on Philippine Airlines Flight 112 refused to serve him another round of drinks.
His response? A torrent of expletives and a round of punches to the head and torso of one of the flight attendants.
At least five fellow passengers helped subdue the inebriated Mr. Nonga, and the flight crew placed in flex cuffs.
Upon landing, Mr. Nonga was greeted by FBI agents and the Los Angeles International Airport police, who had been alerted by the flight’s captain.
Mr. Nonga has been charged with interfering with a flight crew, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. He was granted a bail of $10,000.
Brae Wyckoff, a passenger who said he was on the plane, posted a video on YouTube after the incident. In a description of the video, he wrote that he and another man “were forced to tackle” Mr. Nonga.
“This man tried to rip off the food tray attached to seat and went into fitful rages before being apprehended,” Mr. Wyckoff wrote.
