CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Senate has voted to increase State Police Forensic Laboratory employee salaries by 30 percent.

This one-time pay raise will affect analysts, directors and evidence technicians.

The bill will also require the director of the State Police Crime Lab to submit a report to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance on the lab’s ability to retain employees on or before Jan. 1, 2018. The bill aims to cut significant training costs due to a high employee turnover.

The bill now goes to the House for action.
