Soldiers are ready to a battlefield version of the Google glass, thanks to global defense, security and aerospace company BAE Systems. Wired magazine called the helmet-mounted display a ’lethal cross between the Terminator and Iron Man.’
Q-Warrior, from BAE Systems’ Q-Sight line, is billed by the company as a “revolutionary helmet mounted display system designed to provide soldiers and Special Forces personnel with more real-time visual data than ever before …”
The device is offers a three-dimensional color display in real-time for troops. Wired reported that it has enhanced night vision, the ability to differentiate between hostile and friendly forces, track personnel and coordinate small unit actions.
“Q-Warrior increases the user’s situational awareness by providing the potential to display ’eyes-out’ information to the user, including textual information, warnings and threats,” Paul Wright, the soldier systems business development lead at BAE Systems’ Electronic Systems, said in a statement, Wired reported.
The plan for the new technology is to first deploy it with special forces and at the commander level, Wired reported, although eventually it would reach all soldiers, particularly “light role troops such as airborne forces or marines.”
News of the new helmet-mounted display comes just weeks after Adm. William McRaven, the man in charge of U.S. Special Operations Command, told an audience that he expects the Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (also known as the “Iron Man” suit) to be ready by 2018.

The “Iron Man” suits are being developed by with the help of 56 corporations, 16 government agencies, 13 universities and 10 national laboratories.
