Rush Limbaugh: Arizona’s Jan Brewer’s ‘bullied by the homosexual lobby’

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh issued one of his usual direct assessments of a political hot-button matter on his latest broadcast, calling the gay lobby rights crowd a group of bullies who were trying to silence Arizona’s Gov. Jan Brewer.

He was speaking of Arizona’s religious rights bill that gives business owners with biblically based beliefs the right to refuse service to gays and said Ms. Brewer was likely to turn down the measure, Mediaite reported. Opponents of the bill say it’s discriminatory, but supporters say it only upholds the religious rights of business owners, as promised by the First Amendment.

Mr. Limbaugh guessed Ms. Brewer would turn away the bill for economic reasons, to avoid scaring off business investment in the state, Mediaite reported. But he also said that Ms. Brewer has been suffering concerted attacks from the gay rights crowd and that members have been unfairly targeting her.

“The governor of Arizona is being bullied,” he said, on his Tuesday show, Mediaite reported. “She is being bulled by the homosexual lobby in Arizona and elsewhere. She is being bullied by the nationwide drive-by media. She is being bullied by certain elements of corporate America in order to advance the gay agenda. I guess in that circumstance, bullying is admirable. In fact, this kind of bullying is honorable.”

Mr. Limbaugh also made the point that Democrats weren’t likely to see the gay lobby’s reaction to Mr. Brewer as bullying — but rather fighting for a good cause, Mediaite reported.
