CHICAGO (AP) - A federal judge in Chicago has set a new trial date for a terrorist suspect as prosecutors appeal her decision granting the defense access to secret intelligence-court papers.

Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman said during a Wednesday status hearing that Adel Daoud’s trial will start Nov. 10 rather than April 7.

The 20-year-old denies he sought to set off a bomb outside a Chicago bar.

The Hillside man smiled and waved to his parents during the hearing. Later, when Coleman asked if he understood the proceedings, he responded: “Most of it.”

Coleman’s January ruling was the first time a judge had found defense lawyers should be able to see government papers asking the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court for permission to spy.

Prosecutors’ appeal of that ruling could take half a year.
