DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - Two former Dubuque nurses have filed a lawsuit alleging they have been unfairly blacklisted by one of Iowa’s largest health care chains.

The lawsuit was filed in Dubuque County this week on behalf of former Finley Hospital nurses Lisa Flanagan and Ellen Rath.

It alleges that after they left Finley’s employment, the hospital put their names in a human resources database with a note not to ever rehire them.

The lawsuit says that information is shared with hospitals and clinics across Iowa that are also affiliated with UnityPoint Health, which has locations in several major Iowa cities.

The lawsuit contends that practice violates Iowa’s blacklisting law, which makes it illegal for one employer to discourage another from hiring an individual.

A spokeswoman says Finley believes it’s complying with the law.
