In a curious twist of fate, the Hollywood actor known almost as much for his hatred of paparazzi and the media as for his commercial screen appearances — Alec Baldwin — has won a role in “Law & Order: SVU” as none other than a journalist.
Mr. Baldwin will play Jimmy McArthur, “who questions the SVU squad’s motives” during a hate crime-rape case, NBC said, in a description of the episode published by the New York Post.
The show will air on March 19. It’s a somewhat strange role for Mr. Baldwin, given his long hatefest with the media — the latest of which was put on display this past week with a published rant in New York Magazine decrying the paparazzi and iPhone picture-takers in the city.
In the magazine, Mr, Baldwin also slammed his former MSNBC colleague Joe Scarborough as “neither eloquent nor funny,” and Rachel Maddow as “a phony who doesn’t have the same passion for the truth off-camera that she seems to have on the air.”
Mr. Baldwin’s rant against his former colleagues followed the cancellation of his talk show for the cable network.
