PIKE ROAD, Ala. (AP) - The Montgomery County town of Pike Road is hiring a fired Trussville school administrator to lead its new school system.
The Pike Road school board voted Tuesday night to hire Suzanne Freeman as superintendent. Mayor Gordon Stone calls Freeman an “excellent choice.”
Freeman was previously named a state school superintendent of the year in Alabama for her performance in Trussville. She also worked with the school systems in Cullman County and Auburn.
But the Trussville school board in metro Birmingham fired Freeman from her $200,000-a-year job as superintendent in July 2012. The decision to pay her a $600,000 contract buyout over two years rankled some.
Trussville officials blamed a high turnover rate among principals for their decision to terminate Wright.
The Pike Road system plans to begin operating in fall 2015.
