READING, Pa. (AP) - Six employees of the Reading Parking Authority are facing theft charges stemming from allegations they stole $72,000 by skimming from the parking fees they collected over eight years.

Patrick Mulligan is the parking authority’s executive director. He said Wednesday than an investigation began after authority officials discovered discrepancies in fee collection figures for events at the Santander Arena and the Santander Performing Arts Center.

Reading police launched a sting operation, which they said revealed the six employees collected cash from people parking lots and garages but only turned over part of the earnings to the authority.

Parking Authority officials suspended the employees, who have either resigned or remain suspended without pay, pending further action. Their names weren’t immediately released.
