NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Norfolk police plan to increase their presence near Old Dominion University following the off-campus slaying of a student.

The police department tells media outlets that it also will provide any additional resources needed by the ODU Police Department to increase safety within the university community.

Police say 20-year-old sophomore Paul Johnson of Richmond was assaulted early Sunday morning and died Sunday afternoon at a local hospital. He was found in a parking lot.

Two men have been charged in connection with Johnson’s death.

Johnson was one of two college students in Virginia to die from weekend violence.

Richmond police said in a news release that 20-year-old Kahron M. Lee of Woodbridge was fatally shot shortly before midnight Sunday and died early Monday. No arrests have been made in Lee’s death.
