In a real-life example of made-for-TV humor, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s finger shadow was captured by camera casting right across the lipline of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s face.
The photograph showed Mr. Netanuyahu pointing at something — and the shadow from his finger splashes a Hitler-like mustache in shadow across Ms. Merkel’s face, Mediaite reported.
A tweet from a Jerusalem Post reader gave a quick reaction: “JPost photographer snaps what must be the most inadvertently hilarious political picture of the decade.”
The photograph was supposed to capture the two world leaders as they shared a press conference stage in Jerusalem.
The photo, making Twitter rounds, was nonetheless not published by the Jerusalem Post — though Mediaite reported that the news outlet reported the shadow image was genuine, not Photoshopped.
“Just want to clarify that none of the higher-ups at Jpost are pushing that picture. It’s not on our site and won’t be in the newspaper,” tweeted Lahav Harkov, a member of the Jerusalem Post newsroom. She also tweeted in a separate message to a reader who questioned if the photo was real: “It’s a real picture, not photoshopped. Obviously this wasn’t Netanyahu’s intention.”
