DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - A civil rights group wants to talk about the next steps for lawsuits challenging laws approved by Republican legislators and signed by Gov. Pat McCrory.
The state chapter of the NAACP scheduled a news conference Tuesday in Durham to discuss litigation over an election law and private school scholarships.
A judge last week issued a preliminary injunction preventing for now the use of taxpayer money for tuition to 2,400 low-income students.
The NAACP is among several groups and the federal government seeking a similar injunction this summer for provisions requiring photo identification to vote in person and reducing early voting days.
A federal judge wants more information this week from lawyers before deciding whether legislators can ignore subpoenas seeking documents on the law.
