SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - The assistant city manager of Sparks the past 14 years is being promoted to city manager.

The city council voted 4-1 on Monday to hire Steve Driscoll as the successor to retiring city manager Shaun Carey.

Councilman Ed Lawson cast the lone dissenting vote. He favored the only other candidate, Neil Krutz, the deputy city manager for community services, but Lawson says he thinks Driscoll will do a great job.

Driscoll has worked for the city for 20 years and was appointed assistant city manager in 2000.

He’s expected to assume his new duties in April with an annual salary of up to $196,000 a year.

In addition to readying the city’s budget by June 1, he says his priorities will include meeting the state’s regulations for medical marijuana dispensaries.
