ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - State and federal authorities report settling claims against Long Island-based radiologists for $15.5 million for billing Medicaid and Medicare for diagnostic scans investigators say were not ordered by a treating physician, not medically necessary or not performed.
The civil settlement with Doshi Diagnostic Imaging Services and Diagnostic Imaging Group in Hicksville resolves allegations the practice with 21 locations in New York City and Nassau County submitted false claims between 1999 and 2010.
Under the agreement, New York will get $2.9 million back for the state Medicaid program, $12.4 million will go to the federal Medicare program and $190,000 will go to New Jersey Medicaid.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says whistleblower lawsuits led to the signed settlement.
A call to Doshi’s attorney was not immediately returned.
