MICHELLE OBAMA VISITS MIAMI TO PROMOTE FITNESS

First lady Michelle Obama is celebrating the fourth anniversary of her “Let’s Move!” youth health initiative with a visit to Miami. Obama plans to visit local parks and recreation centers Tuesday afternoon to talk about ways to help children get involved in healthy activities outside school.

EXTORTION TRIAL SET FOR BOLIVIAN POLICE OFFICIAL

Trial could begin as early as next week for a high-ranking Bolivian National Police official charged in the U.S. with trying to extort thousands of dollars from the former owner of a Bolivian airline. A federal judge on Monday said the trial would begin during the two-week period beginning March 3 for Mario Fabricio Ormachea Aliaga. The trial will be held in Fort Lauderdale.

SARASOTA AND MANATEE COUNTIES TO HOLD PENTATHLON

Sarasota and Manatee counties will host the world cup finals and qualifiers in the oldest Olympic sport: the modern pentathlon. The sport comprises fencing, 200-meter freestyle swimming, equestrian show jumping, and a final event that combines shooting with a 3,200-meter cross-country run. Sarasota will host the world cup final on June 5-8, a world cup in March 2015 and the world cup final and Olympic qualifier June 2016.

BUTCHERS COMPETE FOR TITLE IN FLORIDA

Butchers, grab your knives. Almost 90 professional meat cutters are headed to Kissimmee on Tuesday in an effort to be crowned “Meat Cutter of the Year.” The butchers are taking part in three regional competitions that will test their skills. The winners then move onto semi-finals competitions on Wednesday.

UF ALUMNUS COMMITS $75 MILLION TO SCHOOL

University of Florida alumnus Al Warrington IV and his wife, Judy, have committed $75 million to the school. The Warringtons announced their commitment last week. University officials say it’s the largest donation in the school’s history and makes Warrington the school’s first $100 million donor. Florida’s business college is named for the Warringtons.
