DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police say five people have been arrested and could be involved in an online death threat aimed at Police Chief James Craig.
Deputy Chief Rodney Johnson says the five are from Detroit and were arrested Tuesday on outstanding warrants.
Johnson says “it is believed they have a possible connection to the death threat.”
Craig said Sunday that the threat against him was on a social media site and followed the city’s crackdown on drug trafficking. The threat was uncovered Friday. Craig said the threat included a photo of a handgun and the phrase: “We need to clap him out.”
Since July, Detroit police and other agencies have conducted five large-scale drugs sweeps and raids on about 35 drug houses each week.
Craig was named chief in May.
