HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) - A fire raced through an apartment building in Hamden, injuring three people and displacing dozens from their homes.

Firefighters responded to the Aspen Glen apartments just after 11 p.m. Monday. Officials say three people were taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and are expected to recover.

The fire caused extensive damage to a building containing 28 apartments, many of them home to Quinnipiac University students. All residents are being kept out of the building while local officials inspect the damage.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Firefighters say it began in a first-floor apartment and spread to the second and third floors.

Quinnipiac is providing housing for the displaced students.
