CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Students who live on campus at the University of Virginia will pay more for housing and dining.

Effective July 1, housing costs will increase by an average of 3.9 percent, or $204. Dining costs will increase by an average of 4 percent, or $180.

The Daily Progress (https://bit.ly/1fdPMjx ) reports that the university’s Board of Visitors approved the increases last week.

Associate vice president Rich Kovatch says most of the increases will go toward employee pay raises and other personnel costs.

Revenue from the housing increase also will help pay for renovating the Gooch/Dillard and McCormick Road residence areas and construction of new upper-class housing.
