SEATTLE (AP) - The National Weather Service says the forecast for parts of Whatcom County including Bellingham calls for snow possibly mixed with rain and freezing rain before the precipitation ends on Tuesday.

Nearly a foot of snow blanketed the area over the weekend.

Driving was difficult. Most schools closed Monday in the county. The Bellingham Herald reported (https://bit.ly/1cIKwaZ ) falling branches knocked out electricity for about 2,900 Puget Sound Energy customers in Whatcom and Skagit counties.

The Weather Service says snow lingered Monday over the mountains and parts of Eastern Washington.

Forecasters say Washington’s weather should turn a little drier and milder by midweek.
