FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - Germany’s Borussia Moenchengladbach has signed American midfielder Fabian Johnson from Bundesliga rival Hoffenheim starting with the 2014-15 season.

Moenchengladbach said Monday that Johnson has received a four-year contract. Moenchengladbach sports director Max Eberl calls Johnson a “very interesting player … who can play on both flanks as a defender or attacker.”

Johnson was part of the Germany team that won the 2009 European Under-21 Championship. He switched to the U.S. national team program in 2011 and has made 18 appearances for the American senior national team.

The 26-year-old has appeared in 91 Bundesliga games for Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim.
