GRENADA, Miss. (AP) - Grenada County has been honored for its local blues’ influential force on popular music with a marker on the Mississippi Blues Trail.

The marker was unveiled Monday in the Grenada Town Square in Grenada.

Grenada County-bred blues has long been an influential force in popular music. Musicians whose talents were nurtured in the Grenada area include Eddie Willis, a session musician whose guitar playing infused the Motown sound of Detroit with a taste of Mississippi blues.

Willis, who born in Gore Springs in 1936, played accompaniments with the Funk Brothers studio group and graced a multitude of Motown hits by Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Supremes, Temptations, Four Tops and others. He also recorded with Mississippi-born bluesmen John Lee Hooker and Eddie Burns.
