SAN DIEGO (AP) - A San Diego woman who accused former Mayor Bob Filner of sexually harassing her has received a public apology and special honor from the City Council.

The government body declared Monday “Peggy Shannon Day” in recognition of the 67-year-old great-grandmother as part of a settlement of her claim against Filner.

Shannon, who volunteers at the senior citizen information desk in City Hall, was among nearly 20 women who accused Filner of making unwanted advances. The allegations led the former congressman to resign after less than nine months in office.

Shannon said she was humbled by the council’s recognition.
