PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island’s health director has suspended the license of a pharmacy technician who admitted to taking an estimated 4,300 pills from CVS pharmacies.
The state’s Department of Health said on Monday that Shaun Chevalier’s license was suspended after a pharmacy manager at a CVS in Warwick noticed that 57 hydrocodone tablets were unaccounted for.
Health officials say security footage captured Chevalier taking some of the pills. They say Chevalier acknowledged stealing 4,300 pills from two different CVS pharmacies since 2009.
CVS was able to verify that more than 2300 hydrocodone pills had been taken.
The state says CVS reported the incident to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.
A phone number for Chevalier could not be located Monday.
