Chinese authorities say the vice minister of public security has been formally fired over corruption allegations.
State media reported Li Dongsheng was put under investigation in December for “serious disciplinary violations,” which is often code for corruption, the BBC reported. He was dismissed from his position after the allegations first went public, but he was never formally fired.
China’s new announcement on Monday puts an official stamp of government approval on the sacking and was handed down via a brief statement posted on a Chinese agency website, BBC said.
His firing comes as government officials in China have been trying to publicly root out corruption in the Community Party.
