NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Yale football players are serving as role models for students at a Waterbury elementary school.

The team members have joined an effort called Earn While You Learn at the Bucks Hill Elementary School.

Yale says up to 20 football players work each month with the children in physical fitness activities that encourage teamwork, respect, responsibility and safety.

As a result of the work the team recently won a community service award from the group Hoops for Heart Health and received an automatic external defibrillator.

Yale had initially planned to donate the device to a high school in New Haven. It’s now looking for another recipient after learning that giving anything to a high school would violate NCAA recruiting rules.
